Montreal World Film Festival August 22-September 2

The 37th ed. of the Montreal World Film Festival will have film screenings from August 22 to September 2.

There will also be free outdoor screenings at 8:30pm (part of their Movies Under the Stars programming) at the Place des Arts Esplanade. On Thursday July 29, Balzac et la Petite Tailleuse Chinoise / Xiao Cai Feng will be screening with French subtitles. The film is based on the semi-autobiographical novel of the same name and directed by its author as well, Dai Sijie. it stars Chen Ku, Liu Ye and Zhou Xun.

There are even more free screenings covering the past year’s worth of local Quebec films or films made by Quebecers at L’Espace Culturel Georges-Émile-Lapalme in the Place des Art building. One of the films of note, which was Canada’s submission for the Foreign Film category at the Academy Awards, is Rebelle / War Witch, directed Kim Nguyen who’s based in Montreal. It will screen at 3:30pm on Saturday August 24, 6pm on Tuesday August 27 and 8:30pm on Friday August 30.
