I remember watching the first Yellow Fever video and finding it to be a good combination of humor and honesty. This sequel is okay but does not really expand much. There are also some points in it that I disagree with because I don’t think they reflect reality.
There’s a dialog between Bart & Geo of Just Kidding Films (or formerly of, not sure of its status) where Bart claims he doesn’t see color. While it’s funny, it totally rings false. Nobody can ignore race, nor should they. Also the idea that Asian men want to date White women to prove their masculinity comes out of nowhere.
The belief that people should not worry about what races other people date and should not let race dictate their own dating choices is certainly one that I agree with but the reality is that there still exist a significant number of people whose actions and/or beliefs do not agree with this. Whether it’s unintentional, media brainwashing, cultural pressures or willful ignorance, who knows? I think the video glosses over this.
This sequel is also quite a bit shorter than the first one. But I’m not surprised, this is a subject that has been beaten to death. It gets tiring after a while.
